Colon - Carcinoid Tumor, Rectum

Comments: This lesion was found during a screening exam on this 56 year old man. The polypoid lesion appears to be submucosal in nature and on probing with a snare feels quite firm. The lesion is snared and removed using cautery. The cut surface of the excised lesion reveals a nodule, suggestive that the lesion has been completely excised. On pathology, a well circumscribed blue tumor is present underneath the colonic mucosa. The tumor is composed of ribbons, cords, and small nests of neuroendocrine cells that are characteristic of a hindgut carcinoid tumor.
